The following are the minimum system requirements to run Windows 7. If your PC just barely meets the requirements, you will be able to get Windows 7 to install and run, but you may disappointed by the performance.

CPU Processor speed: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster
RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB); 2 GB if you are using a 64-bit system.
Hard Drive space: 16 GB; 20 GB if you are using a 64-bit system.
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver

Certain Windows 7 features have additional requirements.

Video playback: May need additional RAM or advanced graphics hardware, depending on the resolution.
Games: Some games may require DirectX 10 graphics rather than DirectX 9.
TV watching: Requires a TV tuner card.
Windows XP mode: Requires an additional 1 GB of RAM, an additional 15 GB of hard drive space, and a processor capable of hardware virtualization. The virtualization must be turned on in the BIOS.
Home Group: not only requires a network, but that all work stations are running Windows 7
